The sleek and compact PDA can also play back music. The bad: Unfortunately, the Palm TX's battery is not user replaceable. Description: The Palm TX is a Palm OS-based, consumer-oriented handheld device. Compared to other consumer-oriented handhelds on the market, it is midpriced at around $275. You can expand the memory of this unit using Secure Digital (SD), or MMC media. Pros: Has 128 MB memory, which is somewhat more than some similarly priced handhelds. In fact, the typical cost of a product with this large a memory is $410. Also, this handheld has a 320x480 screen resolution, which is somewhat higher than some similarly priced handhelds. Cons: None noted, given available product data. Suitability: A consumer-oriented handheld, suited for every-day use. Also, its display, supporting 64,000 colors at 320x480 resolution, makes it good for viewing color images. This handheld supports the Bluetooth private area network protocol, meaning it has the ability to wirelessly connect with other Bluetooth-enabled devices within about 30 feet to synchronize data, access e-mail and the Internet, exchange files, and print documents. You can also use this handheld to playback MP3 files stored in memory. The Wi-Fi (802.11b) capability of this PDA allows you to connect to wireless networks in offices, airports, and in hundreds of public areas (charges may apply). Value: Overall, this handheld has great features for the money. Suggestions: (1) If you think you'll enter large amounts of data, consider getting an external portable keyboard for your PDA. (2) If you are connecting your handheld to a PC running Windows, you might want to use a third-party software utility, such as DocumentsToGo, which lets you access Microsoft Office documents on your Palm OS-based device.
