Works like a charm

Pros: nice quality prints, wireless networking is great, nice hp vivera inks

Summary: I recently bought this wireless printer and I think it works great. I understand people have had trouble with the printer falling asleep and not waking back up, but if you are a PC user like me, you won't have that problem. I've heard that the problem only happens when you have a mac connected to the printer. So, if you are a PC user this printer is definitely a great option. The printer makes very nice quality prints compared to others in its price range, but in order to do that, it does print a bit slower than average, but i'll take quality for speed. Wireless networking is pretty good, and the inks make everything look colorful.
I am writing this update a month later... the problem is happening (the sleep problem). It wasn't doing it the first 5 days I had it, but after about a week the problem started occuring. If I don't print anything for a couple days, it won't respond and I have to unplug in and replug it back in. That defeats the point of wireless printing. I've been on the phone with tech support now twice and they have not been able to help me. I am very disappointed and I plan on trying to get it returned.

Buyer beware for sure! Tech support was of no support
by anonymous47 on January 11, 2009
Pros: Nice looking design, reasonable price work with both PC & Mac. nice for home office.
Cons: The wireless is horrible! Tried for 7 hours total with tech support (phone and chat) to no avail. Once wireless was enabled that thte power and wireless lights would flash with screen reading "turn off, then on again". if wireless was off, it worked.
Summary: Reading other comments (on tech site and reviews) this product is a lemon. The whole process REALLY turned me off to HP. I had been a big fan of HP, ...

Summary: I was stoked to get a wireless printer, but the reality has been less than ideal. There are a few major 'known' problems with this printer, including freezing/wireless malfunction and unsolvable (terminal) paper jamming. I hope newer models have solved these problems, but I will never find out becuase I am totally DONE with the HP brand. Too many bad experiences.

Piece of junk, my rating is NO stars.
by amp888 on September 20, 2009
Pros: Has an SD port (dont use!), and will probably take three swings from a sledgehammer before being completely broken
Cons: Eats paper, inhales ink, frustrates all users to no end, makes my technophobic mother cry, ruins my day, wastes my time and money, erased my SD card which was full of irreplaceable pictures, raises my blood pressure to lethal levels, and on and on.
Summary: We bought this printer because it was HP, our last HP worked very well and because this one was the cheapest available (only $105, I should have known better). It ...
Summary: We bought this printer because it was HP, our last HP worked very well and because this one was the cheapest available (only $105, I should have known better). It has a scanner and an SD port. It worked fine for a while, but then the scanner quit working. It will will still scan test pages, but will not scan pictures at all. It eats ink like nobodys business, we've spent over $300 for ink in nine months! Lately, it has taken to jamming EVERY time we try to print. I would call HP tech support, but reveiws online have said that HPs tech support is no help at all. We will be very soon replacing this model with a laser printer, and I will be introducing this printer to Mr. Sledgehammer. Thank you for reading this, and if you are considering buying this model, DONT.

this printer is TERRIBLE
by jackie1985 on October 28, 2009
Pros: This printer NEVER worked. From the very first day, the black ink cartridge wouldn't work. Now, I can't even turn it on anymore and it is only a few months old. This is unbelievable, unacceptable and a terrible inconvenience.

Bad: Constant paper jams, timeouts, very expensive ink
by jet14 on September 15, 2009
Pros: The wireless works well. And when it prints at all, it prints well. Most, it has encouraged me to go green -- saving paper and doing anything at all to avoid using this finicky, wobbly printer.
Cons: Constant paper jams, short-lived ink cartridges, an intrusive interface constantly flashing on screen, won't accept print cartridges that have been dropped or man-handled a little bit.
Summary: I am not a heavy printer-user. I print perhaps 30 pages a week (now considerably less). The first unit wouldn't accept a new print cartidge on the first replacement, ...
Summary: I am not a heavy printer-user. I print perhaps 30 pages a week (now considerably less). The first unit wouldn't accept a new print cartidge on the first replacement, so after several days with HP support, they replaced it on warranty. The new unit eats paper, jamming at least a few times a week -- with each jam leading to a long succession of serial jams, error messages and required recalibrations that waste still more paper. Ink cartridges are extremely short-lived and some of the more expensive in the HP line. This machine is a nightmare; everytime I need to print, I get anxious over how I'm going to spend my next hour. It would actually be more efficient and cost-effective if I got in the car and ran to FedEx Kinko's everytime I needed to print a page. If you are considering this machine, go look for something else. Even if it only costs you $30 as a premium for buying a new computer, it's worse than bad money. This machine will take over your working life and turn it into slavery to a finicky printer. I keep threatening to stick the whole thing in a box and ship it to HP's CEO. The only reason I don't is that I've wasted enough time and money with this frustrating thing.

Works Great For Me
by MAJ790HAN on June 19, 2009
Pros: Compact size, wireless printing, picture printing directly from memory cards
Cons: No Compact Flash card support, No Windows 2003 Server driver

Summary: I've had this printer for nearly two (2) months and have not had a single issue with it. Now, I will add that the installation took a little longer than anticipated. The setup does not give you the option of assigning a static IP address to the device. It took a little juggling to get into the web GUI to change the IP address from DHCP to manual. But once I did that, no problems. The address maintains itself even if you power off the printer. If I'm not mistaken, I had the option to disable to power-off feature that has caused much pain. I love the compact size. I only wish it had a driver for Windows 2003 Server. When I work from home I have to e-mail myself documents that need to be printed. Other than that, I very satisfied with the printer.

Worst printer EVER
by rrrandr on June 15, 2009
Pros: looks nice
Cons: The wireless doesn't work. It paper jams constantly. It spits out a finished print right on top of the paper it's sucking creating a very real danger of overprinting so you have to sit there and monitor each page as it goes in and comes out.
Summary: Avoid if at all possible. The stress-related doctor's visit can be avoided by plunking down a few extra bucks for an Epson. Never again will I buy HP.

Don't buy the product
by syost45 on June 11, 2009
Pros: There is not much to like.
Cons: Will not print multiple copies. Will not print front to back. User help from HP is a tremendous waste of time. Their fix to this problem, after hours of consultation, was to make this printer think it is a Deskjet 990C
Summary: I wasted hours re-installing software, firmware updates, driver updates and working with user help. Don't waste your money.

A USB and Wireless ordeal that didn't meet expectation
by MegShrk on May 10, 2009
Pros: Slick Look and Design
Cons: Wasn't able to properly install, with either USB or wireless. practically no support for Mac OSX, and no solution after hours of tech support on Vista.

Summary: I was excited about this product, looks cool and the features it offers were good. I was never able to actually use this printer. Issues occurred during installation and both wireless connection and simple USB printing failed. Uninformed support kept asking me to select wireless setup from the printers onboard menus when no such function existed. I was hoping that this product was going to fun and functional, but I never got further than installing the ink cartridges.
I decided to exchange the unit for the same thing in hopes that the specific printer that I received was bad. I followed the instructions by the letter and installed it using a windows vista PC. All is working fine. The thing works. I believe the problem with my previous unit was that no information was getting through the printer's USB jack to set up the network or even do USB printing.
Please research products before you buy them so you do not end up like me with an unusable printer. Debating whether or not to take it back to the store to exchange for the same item and try again, but I am not too optimistic about it.

Some cons though: Printing documents works well, but the scanning wirelessly is a very slow compared to other USB scanners. Especially if you are scanning above 150 resolution. An 8.5" x 11" image at 300 resolution took over 2 minutes to scan. While it doesn't seem long, when you waiting for it, it is. I am not sure if when hooked up by USB if the scanning is quicker, but I would assume so.
Works well for a wireless printer, but would not recommend for heavy or work based wireless scanning.
