So far so good
by Logan_Drake on September 21, 2009
Pros: four cartridges
Can purchase larger sizes of cartridge if desired
price is reasonable
wasn't difficult to set-up
print quality is fine
copy quality is fine
Cons: noisier than most of the printers that I've had in the past but not unacceptable
had to load the software onto each of three networked computers before they'd work, easy to do but annoying.
Summary: I just purchased this so can't address all of the functions yet but it works well so far. I doubt that I'll use the fax feature much. I'...

Summary: I just purchased this so can't address all of the functions yet but it works well so far. I doubt that I'll use the fax feature much. I've used the copier and the printing quite a bit and like the options. Basically just take all the packaging off plugged it into my wirelss router, installed the software and ta da it worked. ok so it took a while the software take about five minutes to load on each computer. The menu on the control panel is fairly strait forward. oh yah I like the duplexer, and you can adjust the ink flow in the settings, not just the quality of print and the resolution. I hope I still like it in a couple of weeks.

Good printer, bad software, bad network capability
by iowaacreage on June 8, 2009
Pros: Document Feeder Tray. Nice AIO. HP has pretty reliable printers. 4 ink cartidges, so you only replace the color that runs out. Ink idicators on LCD display.
Cons: Noisy!
Slow warm-up.
Network capability NOT friendly.
All the HP software.
WIll this 1 last more than 2 yrs like the last HP AIO we bought?
Last HP had CF slot, which my camera uses, this 1 only MS/DUO & XD/SD/MMC, but alternatives exist.
Summary: I like the general features so far, but the warm up is slow and print prep is NOISY!

Summary: I like the general features so far, but the warm up is slow and print prep is NOISY!
The network capability is NOT easy to work with.
When I installed the 6500 wired-ready AIO according to instructions, connecting the printer directly to the router, it worked fine with the desktop that I was installing it on. (My desktop essentially manages router/network, and we have a laptop on network.) But when the printer is connected to the router and powered ON, it kicks the laptop off the network!
HP is known for aggressive, intrusive software. I've always had the best luck with HP printers, but if you want a network-friendly device, you either have to have an IT pro in your home to get this one to work, or try a different brand.
Perhaps hook it up to router first and use Windows to add hardware/find the drivers instead of HP software.
I uninstalled the wired-network configuration (installation and un-install takes a long time) and re-installed with USB, so back to the old configuration. *sigh*

Summary: This has got to be the worst printer HP ever made. I've had it for about 6 months and I think I'll just throw it away. Wouldn't even want to sell this to anyone. Have to wait a long time for page to print cause it makes a lot of noise and does a bunch of stuff (not sure what) before it prints a page. About every 3rd page you have to take the paper out and put it back in again because it won't grab the page and says paper is out. I've had a lot of printers, so I know this is an abosolutely horrible printer. The 30 dollar all in ones you buy at Wal Mart are much better printers...

HP OJ 6500 is a waste of money.
by khundean2000 on November 16, 2009
Pros: Nothing. I have taken it back to the store and they sort of made it work but now I am home again it won't feed the paper or print. I am throwing it in away and getting a different printer. This was no deal.
Cons: See above. It is awful. I have consistently bought HP printers in the past and have had total success. This is such a terrible machine I can't believe it has the HP name. I guess the company has really changed. I will not trust HP next time.
Summary: Don't buy this machine. The printer will not feed the paper at all. It will not print at all. All it does is take one page at a time ...

?Very Disappointed in HP?
by jonathanmurphy on October 31, 2009
Pros: It's a very nice looking printer, and would work great in my home office if it worked.
Cons: It?s not fully compatible with Windows 7 until January 2010 HP Tech support advised me.
Summary: HP should have been on board with the new release of Windows 7 and made sure all there devices and software were compatible. I am very disappointed with HP.

Summary: Took me three chats, totalling FIVE hours with HP tech support to finally come to the conclusion that this printer has compability problems with Vista. Could not print PDF, Word or PowerPoint until it was suggested I add a generic printer--Deskjet 990C. Since then, all apps open and print quickly.

Easy to use and all functions work well
by ollywho on June 19, 2009
Pros: Have had about two weeks and to this point all works well
Cons: Had a small problem installing ink as instructions are very poor. For those not used to installation it could be a problem. For the "old" hands guess it is OK.
Summary: Still figuring out how to fax. I like the idea that a modem is not requred to use the fax. Still working on how to Fax a document. Just need ...

Summary: ON SALE SO BROUGHT IT AT STAPLES FOR $107. FROM $149. FOR A WEEK I TRIED EVERYTHING TO MAKE THE FAX WORK. I UNHOOKED ALL PHONES AND ANSWERING MACHINE AND NOTHING.
THEN I DID A CRAZY THING! I CALLED CUSTOMER SUPPORT AND GOT A MAN WITH SUCH A BAD INDIAN ACCENT THAT I COULD UNDERSTAND ONLY EVERY 3RD WORD HE SAID. AFTER 45 MINUTES ON MY CELL PHONE THE LINE WENT SILENT.
I TOSSED THE MACHINE IN THE BOX AND STAPLES DIDNT EVEN LOOK IN THE BOX AND GAVE ME A CREDIT FOR THE PRODUCT. STAPLES IS THE ONE GOOD THING I LEARNED FROM THIS..SHOP AT STAPLES.
I WAITED 2 DAYS TO COOL OFF AND WENT BACK TO STAPLES AND SHOWED THEM A SALE AT SAMS CLUB FOR THE CANNON MX330 AT $ 74. AND THEY MATCHED THE PRICE FROM THEIR PRICE OF $96. THE CANNON WORKS GREAT: FAXES, PRINTS, SCANS, PHOTOS, SAYS 5 IN ONE SO I MISSED ONE LOL
