The Xerox Phaser 8500 series of printers provides color printing and expandability for office networks. These machines rival color laser printers, although they use blocks of solid ink instead of toner. We reviewed the network-ready Xerox Phaser 8500N. If you need built-in duplexing to make double-sided prints, check out the 8500DN for $1,099 or the 8550DP for $1,299. The 8550 models aim to provide 30-pages-per-minute (ppm) print speeds, while their 8500 siblings are designed to print 24ppm. CNET Labs' tests clocked the 8500N printing 12.07ppm of text and 11.05ppm of color graphics.
