The good: The Xerox Phaser 8500N provides fast color printing; a low-cost, low-waste solid-ink system; great software; and expandable paper handling and memory.
The bad: The Xerox 8500N serves up mediocre print quality.
The bottom line: Color lasers offer better output quality than this solid-ink printer, but the Xerox Phaser 8500N is faster, less costly to maintain, and kinder to your energy bill.
Description:
The Xerox Phaser 8500N is a 24 ppm, color laser printer.
Compared to other color lasers on the market, it is expensive at around $1,715.
This unit features 600dpi.
Pros:
This printer supports color at a resolution of 600 dpi x 600 dpi.
The Xerox Phaser 8500N is network enabled, meaning it can obtain a network address and act as a standalone print-server.
The printers 600 MHz processor allows the printer to transform a complex document into its printed form faster, speeding up printing.
Cons:
Only prints at 24 ppm speed, which is somewhat slower than some similarly priced lasers.
For example, the
Xerox Phaser 6350DP
, at around $1, 860, prints at 36 ppm speed.
At 625 sheet, without additional trays, the Xerox Phaser 8500N doesn't handle as many printouts between refills than do most of its competitors.
This unit does not support duplex printing.
Suitability:
Made for those who need high volume color printing.
This printer can handle legal (8.5 in x 14 in) and A4 (8.25 in x 11.7 in) documents.
Value:
Overall, this laser printer's price seems a bit steep, with respect to its features.
