Nice printer when it works. Jam issues.
by fakefish on December 14, 2009
Pros: Nice printer when it works.
Cons: Jams frequently. Got it repaired within the 1 year warranty period and Samsung is not honoring the warranty so the 1 year warranty is not accurate.
Summary: Prepare to have to repair it for approximately $ 150.00 for the jam issues and do not rely on a Samsung warranty - it is just hot air.

Fantastic for the price!
by hazmat2 on February 28, 2009
Pros: -Only $100 after rebate at Staples (Dec 2008)
-Crisp colors and monochrome
-Relatively fast
-Does very well handling various types of paper and cardstock.
-Duplexing feature is great, though I wish it was fully automatic.Cons: -Like all laser printers and copiers, it outputs ozone, which you smell.
-There's no dedicated cancel button.
-Only one paper tray and no fold out tray for manual feeding.
-Power-fluxSummary: I print nearly everyday. And, I print a variety of documents on this printer. It is by far the best laser I've used for under $400. Actually, the print ...
Summary: I print nearly everyday. And, I print a variety of documents on this printer. It is by far the best laser I've used for under $400. Actually, the print quality is much better than the $1500 laser printers I use almost daily as well. The speed is on par with all others in this price range.
Also, there's a good duplexing feature built into the printer's software. So, all you need to do is take the paper out of the output tray and put it back into the input tray without any weird flipping, rotating, spinning plates, etc. The printer does the rest. And... I haven't once had it jam when doing this!!! If you've ever tried manual duplexing with other lasers, it's nothing like those. Trust me.3 out of 3 users found this user opinion helpful.

Nice, small, quiet and fast
Pros: Fairly quick for color documents. Does HEAVY cardstock and business card well. Toners are easy to exchange. Low noise, small footprint. 1200dpi
Cons: No manual input tray, colors are off a bit, does NOT like textured stock paper or glossy stock. No duplex option.
Box says 2400 dpi effective, WRONG! Needs ALOT of power 350 wattsSummary: In the best quality mode with the fine print turned on, this takes only me 6 seconds to print a full full color greeting card or 10 business cards on ...
Summary: In the best quality mode with the fine print turned on, this takes only me 6 seconds to print a full full color greeting card or 10 business cards on one page. Not shabby at all! One thing to note though, NEVER attempt to insert a glossy page into this model. Duh, no warnings were on the box to let anyone know what would happen. The toner will not leave the imaging roller and really mess up the next 15 prints. Only way to correct this issue is to print 2 FULL pages of each color, 8inch squares of blue, red, yellow and black onto plain paper. Also note that this particular printer has no "clean imaging drum" option" hence printing of the colored squares to transfer the leftover stuff onto other pages manually. On the same note, I have had this printer for 7 months now and even with its quirks, I have not had a single page jam yet. But then again I do not use the cheap copier paper. I use standard bright white recycled paper. Printing textured card stock is tricky but "do-able". Make sure you only put one page in the tray at a time. Even choosing "thick paper" or "cardstock" in the printer menu, it still does not give a completely satisfactory image on textured paper. It will end up getting a ink stamp look to your prints. It actually looks really good as long as you do not have a font size smaller than 18 point, give it a somewhat antique look which is sort of cool for greeting cards. I have also printed "clean edge business card stock" in this as well. Once again ONLY FEED ONE PAGE IN THE TRAY AT A TIME! They will come out gorgeous! and the printed material will not smear like inkjet in a wallet. However, I did print a sign for No soliciting. The toner while shiny does not appear to like outdoors at all. The prints will fade outdoors in about 2 weeks flat. strange.
On the good side again, presentations, flowcharts, blueprints and even home printed certificates come out stunning.
Why a 1200 dpi printer can do this while NOT being able to do high resolution photos, you got me.
I actually am surprised that a small color laser printer has surpassed my expectations as much as this has.
The quality and speed surpasses the Tektronics/Xerox Phaser printer lineup good enough I was able to finally retire my techtronics phaser 850dp even though i miss the duplexing option.
Puchased at Microcenter in Denver, Colorado when it was on sale for $149
Oh yea, make sure you have NOTHING else plugged into the same circuit, dont know how many amps this baby pulls but makes the lights flicker, not a defect but just uses alot of power... Guessing about 15 amps since I see a disco YIKES effect when plugged into the same outlet as my floor lamp. Resolved by moving to a nearby outlet that nothing else powers.2 out of 2 users found this user opinion helpful.

Great color printer for the price
by vytasdidysis on September 17, 2009
Pros: This printer is compact AND QUIET. The last color printer I had sounded like it it was chopping wood.
Cons: While it does print envelopes, it would be nice if it had a separate letter tray.

Worked OK for 2 months then colours lost strength
by jeremyholton on February 18, 2009
Pros: It was really good for a while and I thought this is great none of those endless problems I have had with Epson printers running out of ink. It was quick enough and produced good colour. Occasional paper jams but not a major problem
Cons: Some colours fail to print at full strength even after installing new toner cartridges

Summary: After a couple of months it started running out of toner, not gracefully by telling me it was running out but by colours failing to print at full strength so I had to throw many copies away.
I reported the problem to Samsung and to their credit they had a technician to my house the next day even though I am 45kms outside the capital city. The technician left a report for me which said "Colour not distributed evenly in toners. Gave them a good shake and all was well. If fault returns order yellow and cyan." The problem appeared to have been fixed but 20 pages later it reappeared. I shook the toner cartridges very vigorously and this appeared to overcome it again.
So I installed new genuine toners and soon after I had the same problem especially with blues and yellows. I have spent many hours trying to fix the problem including shaking the toner cartridges, fiddling around with software settings, cleaning the printer etc, but so far no solution.
So it turns out that this laser printer is no more reliable than an inkjet printer and if it turns out I can't fix the problem if will be considerably worse.
Updated on Feb 20, 2009
The toner cartridges are brand new Samsung and before I put in a service call I had already shaken the cartridges with increasing ferocity as my frustration grew. I hope I don't have to continue this practice to maintain printing quality. If it does continue I will ask Samsung to replace the cartridges and see if another set produce decent results.
Updated on Feb 22, 2009I rang the service company Laserfast which supplied the technician and asked them to arrange for Samsung to replace the faulty cartridges. They refused to do so saying it was nothing to do with them. They told me that the CLP-315 printer will only print about 100 sheets of full colour pages and that the cartridges had run out. I tried to point out to them that the cartridges are new (they show on the printer driver as being half full) but they were not interested so I gave up.
I rang Samsung who were much more responsive and said that they would instruct the service company to replace the Cyan and Yellow cartridges.
The yield on the cartridges is advertised as 1000 pages at 5% coverage. If the CLP-315 will use up all its cartridges printing 100 A4 pages then the cost per page would be about $AUD2.50 which is prohibitively expensive.
I think that the cyan and yellow cartridges are faulty, however, I would caution potential buyers to consider carefully the cost of running these units.
Updated on Mar 5, 2009Despite 3 reminders from Samsung, Laserfast never turned up to replace the faulty cartridges. Eventually I got Samsung to contact Laserfast.
They had decided not to replace the cartridges as I was trying to print more than 100 A4 sheets with full colour. They just hadnt bothered to tell anybody.
I pointed out that the printer monitor said that the cartridges were more than 50% full. The Samsung guy said he would get back to me later that day. Naturally he didn't and 2 days later I spent 1.5 hours on the phone trying to get it sorted out, including 3 faxes from Perth to Sydney.
Samsung agreed that the printer monitor report showed that the faulty cartridges were more than 50% full and committed to issuing a new fault report to Laserfast.
The Laserfast technician who first looked at the printer knew that the cartridges were more than 50% full and should have made sure that if the fault returned the cartridges would be replaced.

Summary: I was visiting my local OfficeMAX one day and saw the Samsung CLP-310. I was not really looking to purchase a printer. I was really surprised how low the price was. I asked for a demonstration from the sales person and he printed off a page. It was very quiet and quick for a color laser under $200. Understand, that my other printers were all HP. I always preferred HP printers until now, but Samsung really hit the target on this printer line. Good quality, great price, easy to install and reliable. I have had no paper jams or any other issues with this printer. It is a solid winner far as I am concerned. I would definitely buy another one.

Manufacturing Defect
by calhiker on August 19, 2009
Pros: prints good, very cheap.
Cons: There is a manufacturing defect in all models of this. I was having paper jamming issues and called samsung for warranty service. Turns out there is a sensor that is prone to breaking that causes each and every page to jam.
Summary: I have a lot of samsung products, but you might want to stick with an HP in this instance.

Summary: The CNET reviewer must have been having a bad day when he reviewed this printer. I grew tired of paying high prices and frequent change of ink cartridges on my Lexmark 522 color laser printer. This printer had not been professionally reviewed by anyone when I bought it but the price was so low and user comments so favorable that I took a chance. Boy, am I glad I did! It's everything the Lexmark was rated to be - and wasn't.
This printer is outstanding.1 out of 1 users found this user opinion helpful.
