The good: Fast prints; good print quality; very low per-page cost; lots of support options.

The bad: Expensive.

The bottom line: The HP LaserJet P3005 is a great mono laser printer for small- and medium-sized offices, but it's expensive. We think Lexmark's E350 series offers a better value.

Description: The HP Laserjet P3005DN is a 33 ppm, monochrome workgroup laser printer. Compared to other monochrome workgroup lasers on the market, it is midpriced at around $850. This unit has a maximum resolution of 1200dpi.

Pros: This printer can be plugged directly into a LAN, so it can serve as its own print server. At 400 MHz this printer has a fast processor, which speeds up the printing of complex documents such as images. (A fast processor allows complex documents to be translated into printed graphics and text at a faster rate.)

Cons: This product does not support duplex printing.

Suitability: A monochrome workgroup laser printer, suited for high volume document printing. This printer can handle legal (8.5 in x 14 in) and A4 (8.25 in x 11.7 in) documents.

Value: In general, this laser printer's features are as expected for this price. If you were to judge strictly by printer resolution, you might pay up to 10% more for a comparable workgroup laser printer.
