  The SECOND One to Fail on Me in 3 Months!

  Pros: 500 GB 2.5" drive with enclosure for $100, standard USB 2.0 miniplug-standard plug interface, neoprene carry pouch

  Cons: Not very useful if the first time you carry the drive with you you get The Click of Death, is it? Also seems unable to back up larger (but under 4 GB) files from my Macbook Pro - though to be fair that might be an OSX file problem

  Summary: I saw these on sale at BJ's stores for $99, and purchased one about three months ago for portable FAT32 storage. All was relatively well so long as I kept the drive in my office and used it to back up the iTunes Library from my Macbook Pro, or the image library from my Windows XP PC - though it would often hiccup and fail on larger video files in iTunes (2 or 3 GB, within the FAT32 size limit). However, the first time I took the drive from my office to my home, sealed in its neoprene protective carry bag, to do some work there, the drive failed catastrophically - I got a repeated "Click of Death", and it wouldn't even mount on any of our home PCs or on the Macs or Windows PCs at my office!
  
  So I returned the drive to BJ's about three weeks back, and they replaced it with a brand-new one. Again, I formatted it FAT32 and backed up iTunes and photo files, and again it worked fine at my office. Then I went on a trip intending to use it as my iTunes library - and the first time I plugged it in away from my office, I got the Click of Death and catastrophic failure!
  
  $99 would be a good deal for 500 GB of portable storage - PROVIDED the storage was truly portable, and the drive didn't die every time you took it outside of your office/home environment. As it stands, it fails every time I attempt to use it in a "portable" manner, and after two failed drives I cannot warn people enough about it.
