The OneTouch III family includes single drive members with the following interfaces: USB 2.0; FireWire 400/USB 2.0; and FireWire 800/FireWire 400/USB 2.0. Capacities range from 100GB to 500GB. The 100GB and 200GB versions have an 8MB cache, while the 300GB, 400GB, and 500GB versions boast a 16MB cache. For backup, the USB-only version offers Maxtor's Backup software and the rest offer the EMC Dantz Retrospect HD software. Special features include DriveLock password protection, data sync between two or more computers, and system rollback. Without the RAID capability, read/write speeds for the single-drive members will be slower than those of the Turbo Edition members.
Description:
This Seagate Maxtor Onetouch III, USB 2.0 is a 500GB, external hard disk drive.
Compared to other external hard drives on the market, it is expensive at around $365.
This is a 7200 rpm drive and comes with a 16MB cache.
Pros:
Has a 500GB capacity, which is larger than some similarly priced hard drives.
Also, this hard drive has a 16MB buffer.
This is larger than the average hard drive on the market today, but is to be expected for a hard drive of this price.
Cons:
Has a Hi-Speed USB interface transfer rate, which is somewhat less favorable than some similarly priced hard drives.
For example, the
LaCie D2
, a 1GB hard drive at around $380, has a Hi-Speed USB, serial ATA, FireWire 800, and FireWire interface transfer rate.
Suitability:
Suited for those who don't want to take apart their computer to add another hard drive -- just plug it in.
Value:
Overall, this hard drive's features are in line with its price.
