"This is the best!" on by drbruce2
Pros: I have a 40" XBR3 and the 52" with the smaller bezel doesn't take up much more space. The picture quality is amazing, even on non-HD channels and the DVD quality is excellent. The best black yet! There is much less lag time on start-up.
Cons: The remote is definitely not intuitive, and it would have been nice if it worked better with the Directv box.
Summary: I am sure there are products out there that approximate the quality of this product for less money, but I don't have the time or expertise to scout them out. In the grand scheme of things, the difference in cost, spread out over the years of usability, would be minimal. You really can't go wrong with this TV.

"Impressive picture and picture tuning, and pricey" on by mjfiore
Pros: Great picture quality, Accurate coloring with little effort, Impressive 1080p resolution, Deep blacks, Consistent screen, Easy to use on-screen menus
Cons: The speaker bar is oddly placed and its sound is accurate but wimpy. The picture may require some tuning contrast, sharpness, blues, reds, etc. (but there are many websites with dedicated forums that can guide you).
Summary: The Sony KDL-52XBR6 is an impressive LCD. Out of the box it was easy to setup and mount with very good picture quality. Abundance of inputs and outputs make wiring easy, although you should consider the simplicity of HMDI.
Picture quality: colors were accurate out of the box though some fine tuning was necessary, blacks are deep with consistent coloring.
Design: nice piano gloss framing, semi-cheesy speaker bar mounted to the bottom of the frame via clear plastic bar
Sound: unimpressive audio quality from the built in speakers, a home theater setup with receiver and speakers is strongly recommended to match picture quality with sound quality.
Price: a little over-priced if you compare it to Sony's next model down (KDL-52W4100). I have compared it side by side with a buddies 52W4100) and the difference in picture quality is noticeable but its very close. Try not to pay more than $2300-2400. -
"Simply Incredible" on by KevZahn
Pros: Amazing picture quality.
Cons: I did not get it for free
Summary: I am not very good with words so I will try to keep this short and sweet. We just got the TV about 2 weeks ago - I know it is hard to read reviews sometimes because you can?t tell if people factor in the price, so I will tell you what I paid so you can keep it in context, $2050. BTW, one of my gripes with this site is that when you read the editors review you do not know what price they are referring to when they say it is too expensive for what it is. At least you will have a benchmark for this review. I think I got a great price and feel good about the money spent. But I digress. Not since I was 8 years old and rushing home to watch TV because the transformers were on, did I look forward to watching TV in my life. This is our second HDTV in my house. I originally had a Samsung 40A550 as our living room TV and we loved it. We decided to start looking for a larger TV for the living room and through all my research (I did A LOT!) I kept coming across the xbr6 family as a solid TV. I went back and forth to the stores, negotiating prices and comparing TVs and I landed on the 52XBR6 for a couple reasons.
The picture quality is superb. Compared to other 1080p TVs, I felt that in bright light and a dark room, the quality was unrivaled. Sound is incredible. I do not have a surround sound system yet, so stock speakers are extremely important to me. I use to have to put the volume at 40-50 (almost maxed out) on the Samsung, now we float around 20-25, with a lot more room if we need to increase it. The connections that this TV offers are some of the best out there right now. 4 HDMI ports is a great. I do A TON of gaming, so without an A/V receiver to house the HDMI inputs, I rely heavily on the TV to hook up my systems. I have all the systems hooked up and there are a bunch of ports to spare. The menu can be a bit tricky to navigate. If you have never used a ps3 before then the menu systems will be a bit annoying. I happen to like the menu system because I am use to using the ps3 system. Within the menu I like the various picture options you have. Customizing your picture is a bit tricky, but once you get it down, you can customize to each input. All in all I am extremely pleased with the TV. The prices on it are coming down so all the cons that were discussed in the original editor review should be less negative due to the price being much more affordable. Not because of the TV, but because of my need to not overspend, I would probably not spend much more than 2200 on this TV. I realize that Amazon and circuit city have this TV for 3400 as of 12/13/09, but I was able to negotiate the crap out of this TV at PC Richard, 6th ave electronics and electronics expo. I NEVER shop for TV and appliances where you cannot negotiate. You never will either when you realize how much you can save. If you cannot find the TV lower than 2200 or and you really don?t mind spending that kind of money, I would suggest to look elsewhere. You can get much more for you money if money is no object. However, if you are into electronics, are on a budget, and want an overall amazing TV that will provide value for many, many years - who am I kidding, this will be outdated by next Christmas, while it is selling for $1000 - than look no further than the XBR6 family of lcd TVs. -
"Best black levels, most realistic color!!!" on by t3silver
Pros: 120hz motion flow is as smooth as butter. Coloring is very realistic especially compared to Samsung's "cartoonish" appearing color. Blacks are very rich considering a matte screen. A very physically attractive model with decent sound quality.
Cons: Cost of the television is expensive.
Summary: High definition looks delicious. Blue ray is even more amazing. A major problem I find with 120hz TVs is panning. When I watch this TV pan with blue ray movies I become overwhelmed with a great feeling of ecstacy at a picture that does not fall apart. I do like Sony LCDs because their colors are much more realistic than Samsung. I do wish Sony would release a model with a shiny coat for their screen. Regardless, this is a fantastic television and do not listen how cnet describes the colors. Go and see for yourself and let the TV consume you and it already has me!

"Very nice picture and sound for the price." on by ButchColb
Pros: Good color, black levels and sound
Cons: None at this time
Summary: Just before our Sony SXRD went out for the second time. I had been looking for another TV and had narrowed it down between the Samsung 850 and the Sony BR6. It just so happened that the Sony was on sale for $2300 plus a free Blu-Ray player so we decided on that one. When it arrived in the house, it was amazing to see the difference between the old Sony and the new one. Much better picture quality and sound, better control of various functions (close captions, etc) and easier mode of changing between inputs (HDMI 1, 2, etc.). All in all, it is very impressive. The anti-reflective coating works much better in our den (two sky lights make it very bright in mid day) and the night time viewing is excellent. With it hooked up to the stereo, the sound quality is nice, not that the existing speakers on the TV are not decent - the sound bar actually produces a good sound. I especially like the close caption options - I'm slightly hard of hearing and the options allow one a myriad of capabilities including font changes, tranparent back bar and color options (none of these were available on the old SXRD). All in all, we are very pleased with the choice and the price.
