The HF10 produces very good video quality in both bright and low light, but its comparatively low-resolution sensor and inconsistencies in photo versus video white balance makes it lag the CX7 for still photo shooting.

When you have two camcorders of this caliber, sometimes the little things make the difference. In this case, they both produce great video but Canon's still just aren't quite as good as Sony's.

The CX7's ClearVid sensor produces relatively sharp, well-exposed and saturated video and above-average stills.

Sony's attention to still image quality in the CX7 gives it a slight edge over the HF10, though video from both camcorders was very pleasing.
