The good: 130-watt per channel AV receiver; onboard Dolby TrueHD and DTS-HD Master Audio decoding; can bi-amplify compatible front left/right speakers; lightweight design with all-digital amplifier; built-in compatibility with Panasonic wireless rear-speaker kit.
The bad: Doesn't upconvert analog video to HDMI; only three HDMI inputs; no onscreen display makes for difficult setup process; automatic speaker calibration isn't terribly accurate; no satellite radio support; very expensive given the underwhelming feature set.
The bottom line: Panasonic's cool-running SA-BX500 receiver sounds fine, but it's woefully underfeatured, especially considering its high price tag.
