CNET editor's take
If you don't need all the bells and whistles that come with the OneTouch III Turbo Edition, the basic OneTouch III hard drive is a promising choice. The functional design, the software bundle, and the 7,200rpm hard drive make for a good basic external drive.

The OneTouch III family includes single drive members with the following interfaces: USB 2.0; FireWire 400/USB 2.0; and FireWire 800/FireWire 400/USB 2.0. Capacities range from 100GB to 500GB. The 100GB and 200GB versions have an 8MB cache, while the 300GB, 400GB, and 500GB versions boast a 16MB cache. For backup, the USB-only version offers Maxtor's Backup software and the rest offer the EMC Dantz Retrospect HD software. Special features include DriveLock password protection, data sync between two or more computers, and system rollback. Without the RAID capability, read/write speeds for the single-drive members will be slower than those of the
Turbo Edition members.
