The good: Great performance and image quality; solid image stabilization; face detection.

The bad: No manual exposure controls; on/off button a bit awkward; noisy images at ISO 1,600.

The bottom line: The Canon PowerShot SD 850 IS has just about everything you'd want in a point-and-shoot.

Product brief - Canon PowerShot SD850 IS
Hide

Description: The Canon PowerShot SD850 is an 8-megapixel, compact camera. Compared to other compact digital cameras on the market, it is midpriced at around $275.

Pros: Has a 4x optical zoom. Also, this digital camera has an 8-megapixel resolution. Weighing only 5.8 ounces without battery and media, this digital camera is rather light relative to its competitors.

Cons: None noted, given available product data.

Suitability: Suited for travel, since it won't take up a lot of space. A recommended use, based on key features, is framed photos for the home. The largest recommended print size, estimated from the camera's resolution, is 12x16 or larger.

Value: Overall, this digital camera's features are in line with its price. However, you would typically pay about 20% less to get a compact camera having comparable resolution.
