Wait about three months.
Though several very good HD models are currently available, the real consumer-friendly products, such as Sony's AVCHD camcorders, as well as Canon's ultracompact HV10 and prosumer-priced HDV offerings, haven't hit the market yet. A few new pro models should be appearing this fall as well.
