GNOME
GNU Network Object Model Environment
GNOME (pronounced "guh-NOME") is one of the more successful products to come out of the GNU Project. Miguel de Icaza and Federico Mena started GNOME in 1997 with the goal of creating a user-friendly graphical desktop environment and applications that would, unlike Windows, be free. It works on Unix and Unix-like systems (including GNU/Linux, of course).
