KDE
K Desktop Environment
A graphical desktop environment initially developed for Unix workstations. KDE is an ongoing open-source project, meaning that its source code is available to anyone to modify, and the software is free. Development of KDE and associated applications takes place via the Internet by means of a Web site, a mailing list, newsgroups, and IRC channels. In addition to the graphical user interface, a file manager, and other utilities, KDE includes KOffice, an application suite with programs similar to those in Microsoft Word and Corel WordPerfect. The KDE interface and its applications are currently used with the Linux and Solarius operating systems as well as with Unix.
