IEEE 1394
A standard for high-speed serial bus connections developed by Apple Computer and approved by the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE), which enables data transmissions of up to 400 megabits per second. With IEEE 1394, as many as 63 devices--such as computers, camcorders, printers, TVs, and digital cameras--can be connected in a daisy-chain configuration. Apple Computers uses the trademarked name FireWire for its implementation of the standard; Sony calls its implementation iLink.
