Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers
The international, nonprofit organization that has responsibility for IP address allocation, protocol assignment, domain name system management, and root server system management. This group is a coalition of business, technical, and academic communities. It oversees the domain name system that allows IP addresses to be found by URLs, such as www.cnet.com; it also manages the registration of domain names, such as .com, .org, and .net.
