LDAP 
Lightweight Directory Access Protocol 
A protocol used to access directories on a network, including the Internet. LDAP makes it possible to search compliant directories to locate information such as e-mail addresses for organizations or individuals on the Internet and other resources, such as files and devices in a network. LDAP is a slimmed-down version of the Directory Access Protocol , which is part of the X.500 standard for network directory services.
