Other uses of WPF
The Windows Presentation Foundation is meant to be a new platform allowing Microsoft and other developers to develop graphics-rich applications. Here are a few that are in beta.
WPF/E
Windows Presentation Foundation/Everywhere (WPF/E), just a code name and still in beta, is an obvious competitor for Adobe Flash. Like Flash, WPF/E will include hardware-accelerated video, vector graphics, and animation. Although native to Windows Vista, WPF/E will be available as a browser plug-in for Windows XP, Windows 2000, and mobile devices, as well as non-Microsoft products, such as Mozilla Firefox, Apple Safari, and Linux. Internet Explorer 7 will contain native support for WPF/E.
New York Times Reader
Also in beta is a newsreader from the New York Times. Developed in concert with Microsoft, the New York Times Reader is a hybrid RSS feed reader and XPS desktop publishing system that runs as a stand-alone applet on your desktop. The Reader is designed to better render online the look and feel of a printed New York Times article, yet provide the ability to search, cut and paste, and print whatever content the user desires.
