With the proliferation of HDTVs and the need for the monitor industry to continually offer new features to consumers, the industry has fully embraced the 16:9 "Full HD" aspect ratio.
Until recently we lived in a 16:10-world in which a 22-inch screen equaled a 1680x1050-pixel resolution, but now, in our current environment, most 22-inch screens have resolutions of 1920x1080 pixels.
This is an obvious improvement in resolution and is a great boon for 22-inchers. However, with the advent of Full HD, 24-inch monitors with 1920x1200-pixel resolutions have become an endangered species. We're starting to see fewer and fewer 24-inch monitors, whereas there is a plethora of 23-inch monitors with 1920x1080-pixel resolutions.
In the last year, the vast majority of monitors we've reviewed have been of the 23-inch variety, so we thought it might be helpful at this point to compile a list of the best in that size category.
